Schema Studio: markup, validation and AI readiness

Structured data that search engines and AI answer engines can trust: one linked graph, checked against Google's current rules as you type, with code for your platform.

A flagship tool with Gran: free to use, and a free account saves your report as a PDF.

Used to give every entity a stable ID, so your Organization, authors and products link up across the site.

Private by design: calculations run on your device. Nothing is stored unless you create a report in your Gran workspace.

How it is calculated

Schema Studio builds one connected graph rather than separate snippets. Your Organization, WebSite, authors, products and pages each get a stable @id, and every entity points at the others, which is how search engines and AI models tie a page to the business behind it.

Errors = required properties missing, or values in the wrong format (absolute URLs, ISO 8601 dates and durations, ISO currency and country codes, GTIN check digits, numeric prices)
Warnings = recommended properties missing, or content Google ignores (such as review stars a business publishes about itself)
Notes = features Google has retired, links to entities defined elsewhere, and improvements worth making

Validation follows Google Search Central's requirements for each rich result. Retired features are flagged rather than silently generated: FAQ rich results ended for all sites on 7 May 2026, HowTo in 2023 and the sitelinks search box in November 2024. FAQ markup is still offered because it states questions and answers explicitly for AI answer engines.

What the AI-readiness audit checks

Whether answer engines can reach the page (noindex, snippet controls, AI crawler rules in robots.txt, llms.txt), whether they can tell who is behind it (Organization and Person markup, sameAs profiles, named authors, published and updated dates) and whether they can lift a clean answer (question headings, direct answers, lists and tables, depth). Structured data helps engines understand a page; no markup guarantees a citation.

Questions

Does schema markup help with ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Overviews?

It helps engines identify your business, products and authors and connect them across the web, which supports being understood and cited. It is one input among many: access for AI crawlers, clear direct answers and trustworthy authorship matter as much.

Are FAQ rich results still shown on Google?

No. Google stopped showing FAQ rich results for all sites on 7 May 2026. FAQ markup remains valid schema.org and can still help AI answer engines, so Schema Studio offers it with a clear note.

How do I add schema to Shopify?

Use the Shopify output: it gives a Liquid snippet that fills itself from each product and variant, with price, stock, SKU, barcode and images. Save it as a snippet, render it in the product template, and remove any duplicate Product markup from your theme or apps.

Should I block GPTBot and other AI crawlers?

Block training crawlers if you do not want your content used to train models, but allow the search and user-fetch crawlers (OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot) if you want to be cited in AI answers. Blocking Google-Extended does not remove you from Google Search or AI Overviews.

What is llms.txt?

A plain-text file at the root of your site that summarises who you are and links your most important pages for AI systems. It is a proposed convention, not a standard, but it is cheap to publish and easy to keep current.

Is my page data stored?

Markup is built in your browser. To audit a URL the page is fetched once by our server and analysed in your browser; nothing is stored unless you save a report to Gran.
